Excelsior College Swat was started as Swat Model School in October 1989, due to the unexpected decision of the management of Public School Sangota, to discontinue the facility of education to the boys, the students were deprived of an opportunity to study in the only well-established school of that time, founded by the late Wali of Swat in 1965, on State donated land and funds.
This unalarmed Switcher in the system caused a great concern to the parents and there was widespread resentment and frustration among the locals. To cope the crises, some prominent local elders campaigned vigorously for the educational facilities of identical standard, for the boys. Thus the then Divisional and District administration of Swat started Swat Model School as an Interim Project, in a suite of bungalows in Saidu Sharif. The object was to maintain a good standard of education through a non-profit basis, fee paying institution. Despite the meager resources and lack of infrastructural facility the school, within a short span, was able to win a place of pride and prestige in the educational arena in Malakand Division. Captivated by its initial success, the Divisional and District Administration became deeply involved and aware, for the need of a properly planned school, with all the required facilities on permanent basis. This was the beginning of the struggle which was later on to be crowned with success. The first phase of its development saw the allocation of land and fund by then Chief Minister KPK in 1990 with his grant of Rs. 4.00 million with which the project took off. On 14th January 1995, the second time the Chief Minister provided an additional grant of Rs. 5.00 million. With this timely help, the campus development was made functional.
On 11th March 1996 a new institution, at its own premises of Sangota Swat, replaced the interim project. It was upgraded to the college level and re-named as EXCELSIOR COLLEGE SWAT. The college has several magnificent portions, Junior Section, Senior Section, Jahanzeb House & Administrative Block. It has more than one Thousand students in various classes, Thirty Five male and Twenty female teachers. It has state of the art laboratories, a library with thousands of books, audio-visual lab and a spacious computer lab. The college banner with Excelsior as MOTTO is: WILL GOD’S BLESSINGS KEEP FLYING AND ATTAIN GREAT HEIGHTS.
The college is giving education through expensive means within the limited resources. The college owns a dedicated and highly qualified teaching team who are keen to light the candles of knowledge. The college is also meeting with all possible scientific needs to make the students able to march in the 21st century.
